General information:

Recruitment will be open from September 16 to October 5.
Some departments will require a written and oral test to be held between October 5th and 13th. Others will require an assignment and/or an oral interview. For the latter, department heads will contact candidates after receiving the form response to arrange the next steps.”

To apply, you will need to fill out a form with your first name, last name, personal code, course and year of study, and a cover letter. When completing the form, you will be able to apply to a maximum of two departments, and for some of them a drop-down menu will open with additional questions. Once the form is completed, the second phase of the recruitment process begins. This phase is handled independently by each department according to the “Recruitment Methods” listed below.

If you are not interested in a technical role within our departments but would like to contribute from an administrative standpoint, please write to us at the address below. Please include your name, surname, phone number, and attach your CV. We will contact you!

Aerodynamics

The Aerodynamics Department focuses on the analysis and design of the airflow around the drone, in close collaboration with the Flight Mechanics Department. A preliminary analysis of the raw configuration of the drone is conducted with softwares based on panel methods, and the resulting configuration is then optimized and validated through CFD simulations.

The department is looking for someone who has at least a basic understanding of CFD setups (geometry, meshing, simulations, post-processing) and who has had a first approach with it.
Currently, simulations are done with Ansys Fluent. However, knowledge of this software is not mandatory, as we are looking to diversify our resources.

The department is trying to strengthen itself with students more or less expert who have familiarity with fluid dynamics and its modeling. The recruitment is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, as long as they feel they have the above-mentioned knowledge.

If you wish, you can include your CV and/or a PDF of a relevant project in your application for the Aerodynamics department.
After reviewing your application, selected candidates will be invited for a technical interview with the department head. This will provide an opportunity to discuss any projects not detailed in your submission.

Electronics, propulsion and control

The department is responsible for the electrical and electronic part of the aircraft, which includes propulsion system, batteries, and moving surface actuation systems.
It also manages of on-board telemetry and radio control, the software management, and the study of autonomous flight through control laws implemented on a microcontroller.

To join the department, you must have at least one of the following skills:

  • Knowledge of automatic and automation
  • Programming large projects in C++, especially Ardupilot
  • Knowledge and experience with PCBs and electronics in general
  • Practical robotics experience
  • Knowledge of Simulink

Based on the knowledge listed above, will be admitted into the association:

  • 1-2 people with knowledge of automatic and automation;
  • 1-2 people for C++ programming ;
  • 1 person with experience in PCBs;
  • 1-2 people with experience in robotics;
  • 1 person with Simulink knowledge

A written test and an interactive interview tailored to the level and required skills are scheduled for this department. Any past projects may be brought to the interview. The department head may bring in some components so he can see the candidates at work.

Marketing

The department is divided into two sections, “Sponsors” and “Communication.”

TheSponsor” sectionis responsible for maintaining relationships with partner companies and expand the association’s network. It oversees procurement and purchasing to ensure the team the necessary resources.

TheCommunication” section is in charge of Social Networks and the Website, taking care of the association’s overall image.

Both groups are responsible for organizing events.

To enter the Marketing department, adaptability and ability to work in a team are essential.

For theSponsor” section, it is important to have excellent communication skills, flexibility and willingness to get involved.

peAt least one of the following skills is required for the “Communication” section:

  • photo editing;
  • graphic design;
  • photography;
  • Knowledge of WordPress.

Based on the above knowledge will be admitted:

  • 2-3 people for the Sponsor section;
  • 1 Social Media Manager;
  • 1 photographer
  • 1-2 people with knowledge of photo editing;
  • 1-2 people with graphic design knowledge;
  • 1 person with WordPress knowledge.

For the Marketing department, there is a customized oral interview for both the “Sponsor” and “Communication” sections.

Candidates for the “Communication” section will be able to showcase projects carried out in the past or submit ideas and proposals to improve the association’s image.

Flight Mechanics

The Flight Mechanics Department primarily focuses on the initial and conceptual design of aircraft, and subsequently works on flight dynamics collaborating to develop the drone.
Engineering challenges include aircraft design and the application of numerical optimization techniques. The department aims to design the optimal drone, actively verifying requirements such as stability and maneuverability

The department is looking for candidates with two possible characteristics:

  • Industrial engineering candidates with Flight Mechanics knowledge and MATLAB proficiency (and/or other languages).
  • Candidates with fundamental knowledge of optimization algorithms, proficiency in MATLAB and C++, for the optimization of work algorithms.

While not strictly required, experience in model aircraft, XFLR5, OpenVSP, DUST, LaTeX, Linux, and Git is highly valued.

The recruitment process is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, provided they meet at least one of the aforementioned criteria.

Upon receipt of applications, the Flight Mechanics Department will assign a specific task, tailored to each candidate’s profile. Candidates will have five days to complete the task and submit it to the department heads.

Following the evaluation of assignments, selected candidates will be invited to an oral interview with department heads. Those who do not have a specific background in aerospace or are in their early years of study will receive supporting materials to prepare for the interview

Structures

The department is responsible for the design of the aircraft structure, choosing the necessary materials and verifying that it will withstand the loads of the flight mission. Solidworks and Abaqus are used for design process.
The department uses innovative technologies and materials specific to aerospace, such as composites and 3D printing. It collaborates and interfaces with other departments to optimize mass distribution, determine the geometry of bodies and to fix the position of servo actuators and wiring harnesses.

The Structures Department is closely involved in production and assembly.

At least one of the following knowledge is required to join the department:

  • Deep knowledge of finite element analysis with Abaqus
  • Familiarity with Solidworks and CAD modeling
  • Good or excellent knowledge of materials and technology associated with model aircraft
  • Knowledge/experience in the world of model aircraft.

The recruitment is open to both bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as long as they have the required knowledge listed above.

The Structures Department will conduct a written test followed by a personalized oral examination that will build upon the strengths and weaknesses identified in the written assessment. The interview will include theoretical questions tailored to the candidate’s level of expertise. Additionally, discussions and questions may arise based on material samples.

Please remember: to sign up, you’ll need to write a cover letter and choose up to two departments you’re interested in. Once you fill out the form, the department heads will contact you and give you all the details about the next step.

The Fly Mi team wishes the best of luck to all applicants, we are looking forward to working with you!
